We will be using Ambleside and so far I love everything about it. The kids seem to be really excited about what they will be learning and how we will be moving forward on our homeschooing journey. I will be updating our new path, hopefully more regularly!!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-11089008582375237242010-12-22T11:56:00.000-08:002010-12-22T11:59:52.057-08:00This semester has flown by and taken part of my sanity the I will never see again. The kids' school is going really well. My semester was less than stellar.....aaarrggghhh!
This year we decided to do something a little different and take a trip for Christmas. The family including Burt's mom will be vacationing on Oak Island for almost 2 weeks. The weather is so mild and the breeze is intensely calming, We are having a great time. I will post pics soon!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-6534330409511386102010-07-23T14:02:00.000-07:002010-07-23T14:09:49.437-07:00SummertimeSummertime and the livin' is easy.....

We have been enjoying our vacation a little too much. : ) We have been trying to keep math and phonics going throughout our summer but vacations, the pool and family visits have definitely top priority.

There is only a few weeks until the fall semester starts and we will be doing things a little bit different this year. I am now the director of Knoxville's newest Classical Conversations, so we will be doing our first co-op. I am extremely excited/nervous about this. I am looking forward to making new connections and the opportunity to fellowship with other homeschool families. The nervousness stems from making sure I can put in 100% as director. I am taking 9 hours at UT this fall and homeschooling the kids, so adding this on top is going to take some serious discipline on my part. I am really looking forward to the fall. I will be updating soon about our curriculum in addition to what we are doing with CC.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-91809800293848889282010-02-25T07:47:00.000-08:002010-02-25T11:06:59.085-08:00School has been chugging right along. K is doing great in school. The only thing we are missing is a home school support group here. I am actively searching but it seems that the home schoolers here are hibernating.

N and EG are half way through their alphabet phonics. EG has more of a knack for recognizing words right now. They both love their new Math workbooks. We switched to Horizon K. Handwriting is going ok. Neither of them have a real desire to write shapes and lines they are ready to "write real stuff" according to EG.

Below is some of our recent work. Enjoy!!

<img style="display:block; We will be spending the rest of the week getting better and using lots of purel, clorox wipes and lysol. LOL
Hope you have a great week.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-11746737963724156922010-01-21T13:34:00.000-08:002010-02-21T05:41:57.124-08:00Our school year has been rolling along quite well. N and EG are working on their phonics and reading skills, thanks to The Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading. While at first I was sold on Horizon Math, I have began researching RightStart Math. I love the idea of games and workbooks. I have also switched from Handwriting without tears to using Kumon workbooks. They are absolutely delightful and the kids love them.
K has finished Prima Latina and is about to start Latina Christina and Lingua Angelica (a latin translation program). We began using McGuffey's Spelling Primer for spelling and vocabulary. History has been mainly focused on books on American History from the library. Same for science.

Things are going really well here in Ktown. The kids are settling in to our new schedule, which is wonderful.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-72342568695363354842009-09-16T09:29:00.001-07:002010-02-21T05:42:32.680-08:00PlaytimeWe have finally settled into our new place. The kids are getting adjusted to our new schedule. Burt and I are beginning to figure out how to time manage being parents, students, working and homeschooling. It has been a very difficult for me to be away from the kids. at the beginning of the semester the kids and I were really struggling but it is getting better everyday.

Here are some pics of the kids enjoying the playground at the new place.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhB40a-x6Vo6aKVKUAt1Vbf2PW2TDKEJiVCXQCQ97Lp1XAfpQ7MU5nZ49AfVAjsqurWZJUHl6ztm48_1fdZCAdcPbyrMwYi4f_gBAe0TztkHjj-2rcTaRlABT6ldp8thN6W-O5baR3ihs4x/s320/DSC_0332.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5382104781836208802" />

EG

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd-wqv3Q86A3oqymkP4apYPO99egLNvu4pISY7Ytb8hSMQte81bQ7OJMfAfzFpz1eZg0o195lgTQH_VGdnezZKmsX11FQX5qpbJI3WsilfLgghjeclbuxxP8nTd7Br0fi8g2723Sk8hA0B/s320/DSC_0235.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5382105144880847138" />

KK

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV77R3pAqj5QmqXjg3Tw1GdN1A6qtsf6jpXKxUejLvbILTRSBA0CkVUgRK6Z3IneiHajtuZfiOOZ5j_I2XH5bCkxN3MDc7pipRVti1SBHSJGJKnc-hsEYqobbKFcgjhEptZyU0H_levFt-/s320/DSC_0247.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5382105477083038322" />

our little monkey

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_Lwx6-LqA_3xLhopHqvVJFFZDK6vgYp4VtoOf92KcRffU38Vst2CDODGKeCQ6WmzL1nDdsL9kPo2pBSxZIYxZ-Z5mxbDvdb56Y-LkyLUnvpcPBhKjOYa95ia-6NR5TdUWaVgzx4dHcv-y/s320/DSC_0336.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5382105783071706066" />

TAmandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-59622496995607950842009-07-26T16:12:00.000-07:002009-07-26T16:32:00.032-07:00God is so amazingHave you ever been so amazed at how God can work out things that seemed impossible? We have felt through this whole process of moving to Anderson, Burt going back to A. University and becoming involved in this community that we were right where God wanted us. We were talking about buying a house and really settling in. All this time, God has been preparing this season...this very short season for us to move again.......we were/are very confused as to how we may have missed the hints that God surely placed in front of us. We were completely taken off guard at how one afternoon of reminiscing could lead to us moving back to TN in 3 weeks. God has busted through doors and windows that have completely caught us off guard. Burt and I both will be attending the University of TN in the fall as in state students, we will continue to homeschool and Burt will be building his teaching business in Knoxville. GOD IS AMAZING! Things are happening so quick, it seems as if we are dreaming. God has provided in a way that no one could expect or imagine. We are so thankful and unworthy of such a personal loving savior. His lve for us has been poured into every detail of this new season in ways that are so undeniable. I am so excited to be moving back to my hometown. The kids will get to s[end more time with my side of the family. These are going to be very busy times ahead and I can't wait!!!!!!!!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-16571630687045099342009-06-05T13:39:00.000-07:002009-06-05T13:57:06.946-07:00Since my last post, we have made alot of changes. We moved about 3 weeks ago, to be closer to the University Burt will be attending in the fall. Burt will be going back to school full time and working full time. While we are both excited about him going back to school, I am so afraid he will be beyond exhaustion. Another change, Burt has accepted a part time position as a worship leader at a UMC about 45 minutes away.

We have been orgainizing and cleaning everything. The house we moved into is exactly half the size of our old house. I can not stand clutter and messes. I am going nuts trying to get this house even remotely set up the way I want it to be. I have a list for about half the IKEA catalog. LOL We are hoping to take a big trip and take care of all the organizational items we need.

During all of this we are continuing to homeschool. We are going on through the summer with a few weeks off in July. I have continued the search for curriculum for Katlyn next year. I still have a few things to tweak before I feel comfortable.

Through this time of change, we are reminded of how blessed we are, Burt is going to finish school something he has had such a desire to do for the past few years. The kids are healthy, happy and have adjusted nicely to the new town. We are still in search of homeschoolers their age. I am really excited to see how we will grow as a family in the new season we are approaching.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-91559673548446163022009-03-04T13:26:00.001-08:002010-02-21T05:44:24.672-08:00KindergartenAfter scouring the internet and tons of catalogs, I have found our curriculum for next year. N and EG will both be doing Kindergarten work next year. Here is "the list"

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7lkzOxiuMcFL3qdKGquy4P4o1K628SsvanxkBj8SDSZ3wDVkHtmy7PRcVT1qb0yswAH4wVES5MFJKhLDMu474LhgGMvawse2CVOHgtV9Kx7plUp44sYbjWgyAwHWmmtYmldcCxrXIJMLs/s320/597021.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5309440351872752322" />

We will add the Bible songs into what we are already doing. This will help them memorize the books of the Bible and stories. K used Veritas Press Bible curriculum with the Cd and they loved it. I think they will like having their own CD.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9BOq_xoOOYPfX238EZJGLAmYHz1dIDzXNpVBBaL-6T0SJ8lwjzX-3kBpeQyfPD7SQxxLv0vfNeBUoYc1y2ABiFY8DfoEuvqins8wKQ54I74cVXR8fb08GV0inHyCHE9Y3OKdu-wrv3ejv/s320/000800.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5309440224972911618" />

I think this item caused the most stress. I signed his wavier today, so he is officially a homeschooler for K5. As I was pulling out of the parking lot, I was completely overcome with appreciation. I am so thankful to live in a society where I can teach my children at home, as I feel God has called me to do. There are so many places in the world where parents can not do what I do. I pray that Burt and I never take for granted this awesome gift.
I am so excited about officially starting with N. I have been mulling over catalog after catalog and website after website. I will have a post soon about the curriculum I have picked for next year.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSHpTxEDUelkbguJilAAi_NutT3opQ8FX70utWjf-pp812EW2zXdBWzY7jZ-dPKueNJMto6dkO20Uo3TSe0xS6oPJNdfjzkGCfXQVUJcxeYjzZGG0FvOU-aC02V6n270VepeuaDTSmAg0l/s320/GEDC1069.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5295671955330881458" />Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-35089200217266782212009-01-21T14:50:00.000-08:002009-01-21T14:59:29.850-08:00Back to realityOur schedule for the last month has been so ridiculously amazing. Burt has not gone into work before 11am. He has helped out with school, housework, everything. The kids and I have been spoiled by all the Daddy time. Well....today was his first day back at NGU for the spring semester. He also had a breakfast with the worship team from church. He was up and out at 6 am and he is due home in about 15 minutes....Can you tell I have missed him? This has been a long day. Sure...I did 4 loads of laundry, school with the kids, cleaned the upstairs, workout and even showered and got out of my pjs today. But, I will be so excited when he gets here in 13 minutes.....until he makes me watch Night Rider tonight. LOL...I have missed you today Music Man!!!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-55778181452365067742009-01-19T16:53:00.000-08:002009-01-19T17:46:37.974-08:00Random 2008 picsThe Elmore's at the zoo.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWuun_Qosk9JKdKcWFTdA3ZUN5WwLEkk8HilA5-wJwQRiiRTgE-NUuMlMuQfD_XK1y3i8y7xIOu_lv3KJXnJf89ztWQ2AH0wOgc5CW9BaRUOk6ER3m5ZPlCu8km_cNbZZFXUqmyLWzfnas/s320/GEDC1068.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293185475571774530" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEeN-32Dq6D7tlrkLzXU5VdWsc7xhQJUZgH9IylfQRfMHOIO_kvCfrgB8EgySU9_Jes0aaY92Q7g1G-FaZWY__gVGirPjLJV1WfnQjtezE5CK4ssf1WT-xqkggHA9PmTC8qIUHgvuY1al9/s320/GEDC1059.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293185113997864770" />

On vacation at Oak Island, NC

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw-GUieXQrCghhxd5lFX9W8IKz8wF7U_JX_k2kTCAaYFotc6UAtZZnamdDz0e1-iKdf-iotMrTEwpdEazRje4wtNOUI8M43LhUGW-Y63IKnVjcq5aYvSdZKq_lZHKOoHBfhznV6EJl4ixu/s320/GEDC0727.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293184418950884226" />

Apple picking and hay ride

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcxRUydf4I6yiMm2XkR6sh570QiEBu3JBLifEktOyUaQ6RleiVM-4byHLk9AONG7p7Fz3cyVk4Rxgb0VMC_vWiSA_MXMuOBlJQceu4S2KZKgNVQ7wT-uPjERMisjLNh_5WZxa8MVfpjHHd/s320/GEDC0702.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293183877073985250" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8EvGXEHwqOriDmrZ5_g6NmnaPyIYc1hhVvOV_-Ka4N_RJPtnrbRojFUdCZatisZNJKb-HtImKmZeFilUj0atRdJSpFlr-yTrghEnHbr71q-q4muJYR194loUVxl7t4K7S8tmjd9Ik2252/s320/GEDC0666.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293173191492017442" />Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-47513504946988248352009-01-19T15:07:00.001-08:002009-01-19T15:08:22.705-08:00My poor neglected blogOkay.....New Year's Resolution 19 days late....UPDATE BLOG!!!!!! Pictures and updates coming soon!!!!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-64404247356930976252008-08-24T08:41:00.000-07:002008-08-24T08:53:55.681-07:00Our SummerOur summer has been very eventful....and not in a good way. In June, we experienced the miscarriage of our 5th child. Burt and I are devasted at the loss and completely in shock. I never expected going in for a routine midwife apt. would turn into an emergency ultrasound, hearing the words a mother never wants to hear......no, there is not a heart beat...our lives have been forever changed. Our little boy, Elijah Paul, will not be getting us up at night learning to crawl or chase his brother and sisters. He is in the loving arms of our Savior. my heart is so heavy...i feel lost.
Also, at the end of July, Katlyn's appendix ruptured. We spent 3 weeks and 3 days in the hospital with her surgery, infections, CT scans and IV's. She spent her 8th birthday at the hospital. She was such a warrior. She did amazing!!

We are starting school next week. We haven't even started and we are behind. Katlyn wanted to start school while she was in the hospital. She is so excited. Naaman and Ella Grace are ready to do "Big Kid School" like Sissy. I wanted to start at the first of Aug. so we could take the month of Dec off. We'll have to see how we can get that accomplished. I will be updating soon.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-31772383488290375132008-03-14T06:25:00.000-07:002008-03-14T06:31:47.625-07:00Crazy weekWe have been so busy, I feel like I have neglected my poor little blog. Here's a quick update. we have been getting ready for a 90th birthday party bash for Burt's granddad and Papa Cliff. Family and friends from all over will be coming to celebrate. We are so excited!!!! As most of you know we moved into our new house in Feb., so I have been running around like a crazy person trying to get my house clean. School has been slimmed down to the basics (Bible, Math, Latin and Grammar). Also this week, we have fixed 15 meals and a months worth of babyfood for Taylor.
I will update with pics hopefully this coming week.
Also, if anyone who reads this is a prayer warrior please check out this blog deniseinsc.blogspot.com this family needs all the prayers they can get right now. Thanks!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-12701169049855106462008-03-01T13:46:00.000-08:002008-03-01T13:56:01.737-08:00Oh, the funny things they say!My kids have been a riot this week when it comes to giving comebacks. I thought all of you would enjoy a few classic comebacks.
I made the mistake of letting my children watch a show called "the Replacements' . In this show the kids get into a bind or want to fix someone they call in "a replacement' Katlyn told me she wished that could happen in real life. I asked who she would replace........She said...my history teacher!!!!!! Ah, the joys of homeschooling!!!!

Before Burt gets home in the evenings the kids pick up the living room area. Well today Naaman said that he was a monster that ate the real Naaman and he couldn't clean. Unfortunately for the monster they have to clean at my house too. Unsatisfied with that answer, he announces that he didn't want to be clean he wanted to be in charge like me so he could fix dinner and do laundry.

Hope you are having a great week! Most of the painting is done and the garage is slowly getting emptied off boxes. (who knew we had so much stuff?)
School has been going great. We have started a new schedule which is working great! I have been trying to involve Naaman and Ella Grace more as we go along. They get so excited to do "Big Kid School".
Now for our lessons this week.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIi_BZw9so4fwvIseKJtxdCu5RZi_gaEyJNeToicBXvVB7CWL30qnchAHd6zeSHkRQXW9L6fgLELmgqyDypQfIU2XOCwgIFv52tnvdMwKNLyO809c2V6xMVI8vKnqHJ-4EjWQ3dcBKdGp1/s320/GEDC0748.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5170763772349841746" />

We are using Veritas Press Bible. Our card this week to us into the life of Abraham. The memory CD that goes along with the cards is a hit at our house. Naaman loves to sing along with is.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwHfaxH6yazbqFPsbYysrVTze8_igqjmY8TgAdU6Hy0pksUmhny_qSinI8vkR1Zr_7de-aXonqEDCDWV8wAeo-aJP8Sqg6ttydmf-Kn-7R9wUKjzfOXbJRjolnuw0rB10h4eH-HM9UYbD-/s320/GEDC0749.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5170764674292973922" />

Latin is one of our favorites!!! We finished lesson 4 and have moved to lesson 5 which is a review of all vocab. and of our first latin prayer. Katlyn is a sponge when it comes to memorizing. We are really enjoying learning another language and I am looking forward to adding in Spanish next year.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyWCTjMwDQErMhdEcKLY31O6NQQEDfEBU81VJtqacrI8cACL6rJuO6MO_0medhWL68CZFgnllarc02zrE3-X99doREN6rPY1pS4HXFwhXs4QiEaTc7auoPs9GFfIkyQ4O2lOAuFS1MM6as/s320/GEDC0756.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5170766061567410546" />

We are in the first few lessons of First Language Lessons 3 and I must say this is GREAT program. Katlyn was so excited that she actually got her on workbook. We are doing one lesson a day 5x a week. We are currently memorizing "the Land of Nod"

We are still doing preschool work..mainly flashcards and readalouds. I have been researching preschool programs for next year it is tough because I want to make sure Ella Grace isn't left out. With her and Naaman being 15 months apart I thought I would do the same thing withthem at the same time....I did't count on Naaman being ready to do school so soon. I am sure we will figure out something before fall :)

In other Elmore news, Taylor is rolling all over the place....I am surprised she doesn't get dizzy LOL. She also is sporting 2 new teeth.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4qW6WIQjt3jEafRqRwnqRuC6to187__Zn0nPAB9r-ltpyLFx6gdqOxtnY6Uo51C-u4RQAMatuw9Qy_41GSDG0I5LZyCfsL8QmsUHUcbcfEwVJPvoboJmhvJosDu3wprKXbaTNQO8tBTqf/s320/GEDC0959.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5170768763101839746" />

Hope you have a great week!!!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06982916160551467479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487491259678445651.post-20965448929387021172008-02-10T21:58:00.000-08:002008-02-10T22:10:51.657-08:00Our new blog!!Welcome to The Elmore Classical Academy's new blog.
